Mr Payne, Mr Fletcher and Mrs Gee
Welcome to Willow's Class Page
A New School Year
Willow Class has seen some changes over the summer. The builders have been very busy and have created a lovely learning environment.
I’m getting to know the children already and have thoroughly enjoyed my first 2 days with the class, with lots of enthusiasm and smiles.
There is so much to learn through the year and milestones to reach but rest assured we will try and do this is in an enjoyable and fun way.
Our Topic this half term is ‘Me Myself and I’
We will be learning about perseverance, independence and dealing with emotions.
In Maths this half term we will be working on place value and number sequencing. The children need to count fluently forwards and backwards from 20.
The children will be exploring maths and number problems in different ways and taking part in some active maths sessions.
Identifying and noticing patterns in numbers are really important for them at this age so please try and practise.
In English we will be using talk for writing to get to know a story. This helps the children to retell the story and talk more about the characters and the story sequence.
We will be writing short sentences, exploring how to use a story mountain and writing their own traditional tales.
We will be sequencing stories, creating story maps and looking at repetitive language.
The children will start to investigate the different word classes—Noun, Adjective, Verb and Adverb.
Science and Geography
Seasonal changes and the weather is what we will focus on this half tem. The children will become weather presenters and linking their knowledge with the countries around Great Britain.
Tag Rugby and Outdoor adventurous will be our focus this half term.
Art and DT
The children will be learning about Picasso and doing self-portraits. We will also design and make some weather stations.
We will be learning how to log in to a laptop, save and retrieve work. The children will be exploring algorithms using bee bots and other hardware.
A really good website at the moment is hit the button. This helps so much with times tables and other maths areas. You can also get it for IPads, Android Tablets and Kindles.
A helpful app and website is Khan Academy. Originating from an Uncle helping his Nephew across the globe it has now grown to be a really useful app and website to support with understanding new concepts or helping when sometimes we “don’t get it”. https://www.khanacademy.org/
