Welcome to Willow's Class Page

Awesome Autumn

One half term down and Christmas is coming.

Willow Class have settled into Year 1 really well and it has been lovely to see how well they have adapted to Year 1. The children are trying very hard and I couldn’t be any prouder of them.

Our Topic this half term is ‘Awesome Autumn’

We will be learning about perseverance, independence and helping others.

Maths

In maths this half term we will be consolidating some of our learning from Autumn 1 and moving onto addition and subtraction, shape and investigating how to measure.

We had a fantastic day with our TTRockstar maths.

We created Rock Star mansions and used arrays to create the windows.

English

We will be following the story of Leaf Man and looking at the sequence of a story and creating our own version. We will be using instructional texts to make things for Leaf Man too.

We will be writing short sentences, exploring how to use a story mountain and writing their own traditional tales.

We will be sequencing stories, creating story maps and looking at repetitive language.

The children will continue to investigate the different word classes—Noun, Adjective, Verb and Adverb.

Science and Geography

Seasonal changes and the weather is what we will focus on this half term. The children will become weather presenters and linking their knowledge with the countries around Great Britain.

P.E

Dance and Gymnastics will be our focus for P.E this half term.

Art and DT

Creating Leaf Man, designing his house, creating Christmas decorations and Diwali lamps will create an interesting array of items.

Computing

We will be learning how to log in to a laptop, save and retrieve work. The children will be exploring algorithms using bee bots and other hardware.

Useful Websites

A really good website at the moment is hit the button. This helps so much with times tables and other maths areas. You can also get it for IPads, Android Tablets and Kindles.

A helpful app and website is Khan Academy. Originating from an Uncle helping his Nephew across the globe it has now grown to be a really useful app and website to support with understanding new concepts or helping when sometimes we “don’t get it”. https://www.khanacademy.org/
