Mr Payne, Mr Fletcher and Mrs Gee
Welcome to Willow's Class Page
I must start with a huge thank you and well done to all the children in Key Stage 1 for their fantastic efforts to create such a great Christmas performance. We are now in the second term and it feels like the first one has flown by.
Our Topic this half term is ‘Arctic Adventures’
We want the children to be as independent as possible from the start of the day so please let them try to organise themselves when they come into the classroom. They can do it!
We will begin with recapping in maths this half term. We will look at explaining the reasons why something might be right or wrong and encourage the children to use the right language to do this. We will be doubling, halving and investigating 2D shapes.
Other things to help – count in 2’s to 20, 5’s to 50 and 10’s to 100.
We will be using our mantra of ‘think it’, ‘say it’, ‘write it’ and ‘re-read it’ when writing our sentences. Capital letters for proper nouns will also be a focus in the first stages of the term. We will continue to use finger spaces, punctuation and work on our lovely handwriting.
We will be listening to, sharing, acting out and enjoying lots of fairy tales. Making predictions, inferring from what we can see and read.
Science and Geography
Investigations: We will be completing some investigations using the sentence ‘What will happen to the X if we change Y? Looking at different materials and their properties too.
Fitness and Handball will be our focus this half term.
Art and DT
We will be working on some still life sketching and clay modelling skills. Looking closely at primary and secondary colours.
We will be learning how to log in to a laptop, save and retrieve work. The children will be exploring algorithms using bee bots and other hardware.
A really good website at the moment is hit the button. This helps so much with times tables and other maths areas. You can also get it for IPads, Android Tablets and Kindles.
A helpful app and website is Khan Academy. Originating from an Uncle helping his Nephew across the globe it has now grown to be a really useful app and website to support with understanding new concepts or helping when sometimes we “don’t get it”. https://www.khanacademy.org/

One hour of code
Useful Apps – Train that Brain.
Khan Academy Kids – It starts off quite easy and then builds up. It has some online books and activities that can make reading and homework easier.
Lumosity or MentalUP – Brain training activities. Again just 10 min a day and they think they are just playing games.
Hit the Button – Good for number bonds, multiplications and division.
Cbeebies – Has some good computing games.
Jolly Phonics Lessons – Has some good activities for the different phonemes (sounds) and tricky words (words that don’t sound out).
Maths Games (Sharpen your brain and train it) – Knockout System –
Little Alchemy 2 – Science Mixtures and information.
(I’ve tried to make sure there are as little apps with in-app purchases as possible)
We had a fantastic day with our TTRockstar maths.
